Universalist Unitarian Church of Haverhill

Commissioned Lay Community Minister

Commissioned to the Community Ministry of Spiritual Care

February 4, 2024

Receiving a commission places me in the opportunity to have a charge from my personal congregation to perform a ministry on its behalf. This charge grants me the ecclesial authority to engage in the various forms of spiritual care. The Unitarian Universalist Society for Community Ministries recognizes commissioned lay community ministers as continuing in the office of the deacons. To learn more about commissioned ministry, visit the UUSCM website's "What is Our Ministry" and "Categories of Ministry" pages.

King's College London

Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience

MSc in the Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health

Current Student

Studying at King's College London with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience has been a wonderful time of exploration. A key interest of mine is the intersection of spirituality with the brain, an area of study called neurotheology. By diving deeper into neuroscience, psychology, and mental health, I will both be better prepared to work with those living with mental health differences as well as enter into a larger conversation surrounding spirituality and neuroscience.

My Masters of Divinity gave me a theological foundation. I studied Jewish, Christian, and Islamic texts. A significant portion of my studies focused on marginal theologies like religious naturalism and process theology as well as their impact on spiritual care.

Clinical Pastoral Education

Clinical Pastoral Education was the clinical training necessary for my work as a chaplain. My first unit (400 hours) was completed as an internship while my last three units (1,200 hours) were completed as a residency focused on behavioral health chaplaincy. These units focused on tools such as deep listening, pastoral presence, and learning how to truly witness another's story.
